This Week guest host Martha Raddatz confronted Ben Carson today over the “Muslim president” controversy that’s plagued his campaign ever since, one week ago today, Carson said that America should never elect a Muslim president.
Carson has since clarified his remarks, but Raddatz told him this morning it was “quite clear” what he said.
At first Carson complained that she and the rest of the media aren’t reading the transcript, to which Raddatz said, “I’m reading the transcript.”
She brought up Carson saying that any Muslim who would want to be president should have to denounce Sharia law and asked, “Do you assume that all Muslims embrace Sharia law”
Carson stood by his assessment of the tenets of Islam and challenged Raddatz and anyone else to show him “an approved Islamic text that opposes Sharia.” In the meantime, he still has a problem with a religion that’s “against the rights of women” and gay people and that “subjugates other religions.”
